This election has revealed the deep division in our society.
It seems that no matter what, half of America will be angered by the results of Tuesday.
Judgment has outdone mercy.
Our search for truth has neglected grace.
Our worst assumptions of others have guided us rather than compassion.
Lord, You have lavished Your love on us – so we can be called children of God.
You have created each individual in Your image, our sisters, and brothers.
We pray a special blessing on those whom we disagree or will vote differently.
You have called us to love our neighbors, no matter their political affiliation.
The real work of reconciling us to one another goes beyond this week’s election.
Move us beyond our tribes and caricatures of our opponents.
Shine a light on our blind spots that keep us from understanding each other.
May the Church model how the gospel brings together natural enemies.
Mature us to have the tough and complicated conversations that need to happen.
Your death and resurrection has broken down the wall that divides us.
You have called us your children, and in turn, we call each other sister and brother.
Guide us through this week to live out the gospel.
Remind us to see each other as individuals created in Your image.
Amen
