A Prayer for Parents

May 3, 2020

The exhaustion of multitasking has caught up to us.
Trying to send an email while a child sits on our lap.
Making a phone call with drums beating in the background.
Teaching school lessons while trying to manage the details of the house.
Patience can run sparse.

So, Lord, we ask for an extra measure of grace for parents.
You have given families the extra gift of time.
Through all the stress of this season, we have more space with each other.
That comes with a certain degree of challenges.
Teach us as parents to seize this opportunity.
Slow us down in our frustration and quicken us to listen to our kids.

We pray for significant conversations around the table during breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We ask for better boundaries amid work-life-balance.
We lift each child navigating the complexities of this season.
Guide us in wisdom to represent You well to our children.
May they look back at this time realizing Your presence and provision.

Our brokenness and imperfections remain apparent, so we repent and ask for forgiveness.
We admit that we cannot do it all, so teach us to grab your light burden.
Grow our spiritual journey – transform our hearts and motives.
We cannot lead our children spiritually to places You have not taken us.

Today, we pray for each parent, child, and family navigating this season.
Fill every home with the good news of the gospel.
Teach us to wisely make the most of this time.
Provide us for strength today.
Firm our focus of hope in You.

Amen
