A Prayer for the Burned Out

October 25, 2020

We have wearied ourselves with countless amounts of information.
We have debated and argued.
Crisis, pivot, and unprecedented have become normal words in our vocabulary.
We are more than exhausted than we can know.

Lord, watch over the burned out.
Remind us that You sovereignly hold the universe together.
Teach us to carry the load You give us.
Move us from performing to earn Your grace to knowing You have secured it for us.
Give us the wisdom to know Your role and when You call us to act.

In our attempts to be like You, we have tried to take matters into our own hands.
We confess our broken humanity.
We acknowledge our need for a Savior.
In Your grace, meet us today.
Slow us down long enough to move us from burnout to Your rest.

We live in a burned-out society.
May we become people who offer life to others.
Move us to become people of empathy and compassion.
Let us rediscover the gospel message that it’s not on us to make the world new.

Today, we bring our burned-out souls to You.
Only You can offer the hope we need.
Only You can heal us from our pain.
Slow us down long enough to sense Your presence.

Amen
