A Prayer for Summer 2020

June 28, 2020

The summer seems to offer us a glimmer of hope.
The winter and spring unearthed a host of anxiety, fear, and exhaustion.
You have walked with us in the Coronavirus.
You have called us to heal and reconcile in our current conversation on racism.
Amid all the chaos, may we move forward in this next season.

Lord, we commit the summer of 2020 to You.
All is not well, so we continue to ask You to heal this land.
Open our hearts, souls, and minds to the truth of the gospel.
Guide us into the messy work of peacemaking.
Teach us to lower our defenses and raise our compassion for others.

You promise to bring rest to our weary souls.
Comfort those who grieve.
Exchange the worry so many feel with faith.
Inspire hope to those with cynicism.
We volunteer to participate in Your responding to the prayers of those who hurt.

Help us reimagine loving our neighbor in this season.
Enlarge our tables to help us practice for heaven.
In a reopening world, make us ready to live out hospitality.
May our words and actions reflect Your love for every individual.

We offer You the summer of 2020.
The winter and spring taught us our need for the cross to put sin to death.
May the summer resurrect us with Your good news.
Give us a vision for the gospel and loving our neighbor.
Create in us new hearts and transformed minds.
So, Lord, our trust resides in You.

Amen
