Corrie Ten Boom said, “Let God’s promises shine on your problems.”
At first glance, that quote seems like a pithy cliché to dismiss a problem. Knowing Corrie Ten Boom would change that. Her book The Hiding Place details how her family hid Jews from the Nazis, which ultimately led to their imprisonment in a concentration camp. She alone survived out her sister and father.
We listen differently to the words of people who have been there. They have walked through the valley of the shadow of death. In many ways, they speak less and listen more, but their words carry the weight of hope and bring life.
Many of you have shared with me your exhaustion from the extra work on your plate. Others of you have indicated the gnawing restlessness of loneliness in the social distancing. Students keep finding out about cancellations and postponements. Still, several people live with the weight of an unknown future of their job.
As I write this post, I see the sunlight shining through my window. My prayer for you today is that for one brief moment, God’s promises would shine on your problems wherever you might be in your faith journey, that you would sense the genuine presence of God. Like the saints of old, including Corrie, that you would like back at this moment and remember Jesus becoming visible.
So today, I hope you find rest. I hope you experience a sense of peace. Take a moment to read these promises from scripture to embrace today:
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
Psalm 84:11
“For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
Psalm 100:5
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Isaiah 40:29
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8
“In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will…”
Ephesians 1:11
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Colossians 3:12
