Interest Groups and Inviting

June 27, 2018
Would you consider yourself an inviter?
This week at Browncroft, we launched summer interest groups. These groups gather people together through an activity or hobby. Leaders have started fourteen different types of groups including volleyball, basketball, hiking, kayaking, playgroups, and a book club.
You know what’s been remarkable about the groups? The leaders and members of each group have gone out of their way to invite people. They have shared their groups on social media. They have talked with people in person, texting, and emailing. People will come together through an interest, but they come together because someone took the time to invite them.
Recently, I came across Romans 15:7. Listen to what it says in the Message version:
“So reach out and welcome one another to God’s glory. Jesus did it; now you do it!”
The principle Paul communicates to the Romans in the rest of passage calls people to go out of their way to invite. Jesus did the same for us. He gave up the riches of heaven to walk this earth with people like you and me. When we open our lives up to people outside our friend’s groups or strangers, we live out the Gospel in the way Jesus invited us.
You have a powerful opportunity to share the Gospel through inviting. What if your neighbors, coworkers, and the people you see on a regular basis just wanted someone to spend time with them? Just like interest groups, you may invite them to come to the park, shoot hoops, or go for a hike.
Who will you invite this week? Jesus has placed people in your life so that you can be a part of them experiencing the Gospel.
